Personal Training FAQs

I have not been exercising at all. Will I be ready for my free session?

Yes. It is ok if you have not been exercising at all or even if you have never exercised. We train clients at all levels and start everyone at a pace that is appropriate for them.

What should I wear?

Your comfort matters most. If you like baggy clothes, that is fine. Many clients wear t-shirts, athletic pants, athletic shorts or sweat pants. Others like to wear the latest workout gear. Make sure to wear athletic shoes of some kind. We ask that you do not to wear any pants with buttons, which sometimes can rip our equipment upholstery.

I have an injury. Will my trainer be careful?

Personal Trainers are not doctors, so we ask that you are physically released by your Doctor before trying your session. Make sure to fully inform us of any injuries you have or have had in the past. Our trainers will take special precaution to make sure your safety comes first. Minor injuries and major injuries or health problems should be handled differently. What's most important is that you communicate clearly with us.

How much does training cost?

The prices vary per session depending on several factors: How many you purchase at one time, which trainer you are with, how long the sessions are that you purchase, how fast the sessions expire, if you train individually or with others and how long you have been a client of Alter Ego. Our prices are very competitively priced with other local training programs, and in most cases are lower, however our trainers are compensated at a much higher rate than the local competition. Because we offer so many types of Personal Training Packages, we make it possible for almost anyone to afford us!

Can I split my payments up?

Yes, when you purchase a package, we will let you split your payments up over the period of time that you train. The number of payments will depend on how many sessions you purchase.

How many sessions does Alter Ego sell at one time?

We sell 12, 24 or 48 sessions at one time. The more that you purchase, the lower your cost.

What are the times available?

Each trainer has their own schedule. Once your trainer is assigned to you and you purchase a package of sessions, it will be up to you and the trainer to schedule the sessions. Our trainers work at all times of the day from as early as 5am to as late as midnight. Each trainer has their own schedule, so we will make sure to match you with a trainer that meets your scheduling needs.

Will my trainer be loud and yell at me?

Not unless you want him/her to. Some clients like a trainer that motivates them that way, but most clients prefer a trainer that is motivating, but not loud. We will match you to whatever suits you best.

Why do most people hire a personal trainer?

The most common reasons for personal training are lack of knowledge, lack of motivation, and a need for someone to hold them accountable and force them to get in shape and be healthy. Our trainers are not only experts in their fields, but also participate in continuing education events that focus on the psychological aspects of exercise and training as well as physiology.

Are your trainers certified?

Yes. Our Personal Trainers are Nationally Certified. However, we look for far more than just a certification before a trainer can be included on our staff. We only hire trainers who know how to approach each individual in terms of their uniqueness, who know how to get results for their clients, and who are good-hearted people that can consider the needs of others. We also make sure that they use safe and proper techniques when training.

What makes Alter Ego personal training better than anyone else?

We get results. Our trainers are not afraid to stick to the basics if that is what is called for. Many times today, you will see trainers that use a lot of fancy gadgets with clients, but it seems unclear if there are really any benefits to what is being done. Our trainers use the principles that are proven to work and have been in use for the longest amount of time. To burn fat, your heart rate must increase. To build lean muscular tissue, you must use movements that impact the muscles the most. There is nothing wrong with a squat, a military press, jump roping or jogging. Many of the new aged functional gadgets that you see being used are often times geared toward balance and coordination. However, we believe that you must first develop muscle control through the basic movements before you are ready to move onto advanced techniques. The most important focus is what is going on in the clients' minds, how they see themselves in the mirror everyday and what is motivating them to continue on and change their lives.
